The 2nd Amendment exists to make sure that our right to keep and bear arms is safe from government interference. The Founders ratified the phrase "shall not be infringed" for a reason.

But, as you know, the bill of Rights doesn't apply to private businesses and organizations. They are free to try to chip away at the 2nd Amendment all they want.

Now, a number of your colleagues are trying to give these gun control organizations even more power.

In the late 1990s, gun manufacturers were on the brink of bankruptcy. Anti-gun groups, aided by the Clinton administration, were trying to sue the industry out of existence. Essentially, every time a gun was used in a high profile crime, activists tried to hold the gun industry legally responsible for that crime.

Congress passed the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act in 2005 to put an end to this and give gun stores the same protection as other industries. When someone uses a hammer to kill someone, the victim's family isn't allowed to sue Home Depot or Lowe's. The PLCAA applies the same logic to the gun industry.

Yesterday, some of your colleagues introduced a bill to roll back these protections. They introduced the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, a three-sentence-long bill that would open the door for more frivolous lawsuits. The goal is to accomplish through the courthouse what they have failed to win through the Capitol building.

Congress has refused to pass the Assault Weapons Ban, and for good reason. But if this new bill passes, then gun control organizations would be allowed to target companies simply because they manufacture AR-15s. And if the companies don't agree to "self-regulate," they would be sued into bankruptcy.

You need to kill this bill.
