The 2nd Amendment was written to ensure that Americans would never need to fear tyrannical governments. Should future governments ever try to disarm the American people, they would be ready to fight back.

But for the past century, Congress has chipped away at this fundamental individual right. Now, anti-gun activists are going for it all.

Your colleagues have just introduced two bills to set the stage for future nationwide confiscations. The first bill is the Handgun Purchaser Licensing Act (HR.3285 / S.1844). It would require that Americans receive a government permit before being allowed to purchase a handgun. That permit would then be added to a database, giving the government a registry of which Americans own handguns.

The Supreme Court has already ruled that handgun ownership is an individual right protected by the 2nd Amendment. The government has absolutely no right to force Americans to ask permission before being allowed to exercise this right. And you certainly do not have the right to keep a database of all Americans exercising their right to keep and bear arms...

The second bill that was just introduced is the 3D Printed Gun Safety Act (S.1831). This bill would make it illegal to possess blueprints on how to build a gun. This has nothing to do with "safety." This is just another way to control the American people. Gun control advocates know that they can never disarm the American people if we are allowed to build our own firearms. This is just another bill to set the stage for even more gun control down the line.

You need to kill both of these bills. Many of your colleagues believe this is a "common-sense" "compromise" on gun control. It is not.

There is nothing common sense about chipping away at the right to keep and bear arms and forcing Americans to register their handguns is not a "compromise."

I want to speak plainly: Any Congressman or Senator who votes for either of these bills will lose their seat.
