Your colleagues in the House and Senate are still moving forward with the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act, a radical gun confiscation bill that would allow police, prosecutors, and judges to disarm innocent Americans.

Law enforcement already have all of the tools they need to disarm dangerous criminals and the mentally ill. They can bring cases to court and the accused gun owner gets a chance to dispute the accusations. If the government can convince a judge or jury beyond a reasonable doubt, then a confiscation order can be carried out.

The Extreme Risk Protection Order Act is dangerous because it lowers the standard of proof needed to suspend someone's individual right to self-defense.

Instead of the government having to levy the accusations in open court, they would be allowed to use ex parte hearings to suspend someone's constitutional rights without even notifying them.

Instead of forcing the prosecution to prove someone is dangerous 'beyond a reasonable doubt,' judges could authorize confiscation raids simple based on 'reasonable cause.'

And when a gun owner finally got his or her day in court, a judge would be able to extend the disarmament order using just the 'preponderance of evidence' standard, meaning that they believe it is more likely than not (at least a 51% chance) that someone is dangerous.

It is disgusting that you would even consider this legislation. The Founding Fathers are rolling in their graves watching this bill make its way through the House and Senate...

The 2nd Amendment protects the individual right to keep and bear arms. This bill would turn that right into a privilege that can be revoked using the lowest legal standards of proof. And through this entire proposed process, prosecutors would not be required to charge the gun owner with a crime. This bill literally authorizes the government to disarm innocent Americans.

Both parties are currently whipping votes for this bill. I am writing to tell you that it isn't enough for you to simply vote against it. I am demanding that you kill this bill.

Any Congressman or Senator who dares support this bill will be removed from office. That is a promise.
