An illegal alien was just arrested in Colorado after he crashed his truck and killed an American motorcyclist. The criminal forced his way into the US on a bogus asylum claim and has abused every loophole to avoid being deported. Now, an innocent American and father of five is dead.

This week we saw tragic news come out of Colorado. Miguel Ramirez Valiente is Salvadoran illegal alien who forced his way into the US years ago on a fraudulent asylum application. Even though he has been arrested multiple times, he has used our immigration loopholes to avoid deportation.

Valiente was arrested again last week on vehicular manslaughter charges. He crashed his truck into a motorcycle and killed Sean Buchanan, a father of five.

Every week, more and more Americans are victimized by illegal aliens who abused our asylum system to force their way into the US. The loopholes in our immigration laws are literally killing innocent people.

Illegal aliens are flooding the border because they know how to game the system. They know that there is a 2-year backlog in the courts and that if they show up with a child in-tow, Border Patrol and ICE are required to release them after just 20 days.

A hundred thousand illegal aliens are being caught every month because of these loopholes.

Lindsey Graham's Secure and Protect Act would put a stop to this once and for all. The bill would hire 500 new immigration judges to eliminate the backlog. It would then amend the Flores Settlement to allow ICE to detain illegal alien family units for up to 100 days so that their asylum claims can be adjudicated. And lastly, it would require caravan migrants to claim asylum in every safe country that they pass through before being eligible for the US asylum system.

This is common sense. Right now, there is a modern day slave trade in Central America. They know that the Flores settlement requires the government to release illegal alien children and families. They are using these trafficked children as get-out-of-jail-free cards.

Lindsey Graham's bill would put a stop to all of this. It would respect the rights of legitimate asylum seekers and punish the frauds that are overloading our system. It would ensure that all asylum claims are heard and that no illegal alien is released into the country because the courts are backed up.

You must push this bill through. I don't care what it takes, you must pass it into law. Even if that means tacking it onto a must pass spending bill.

Your colleagues are terrified of having to close these loopholes. They would rather protect their political careers than protect Americans like Sean Buchanan. It is shameful.
