The 2nd Amendment is supposed to protect Americans' right to carry firearms for self defense. But right now, 30 states refuse to honor all out-of-state carry permits.

CA, NY, NJ, IL, MA, MD, RI, CT, OR, and DC all refuse to honor ANY out-of-state carry permits and 26% of Americans live in states where even law-abiding resident gun owners are denied the right to carry.

Criminals don't care about gun laws. Outlawing concealed carry has not stopped a single tragedy. The only thing it does is prevent good, law-abiding Americans from protecting themselves and others in public.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would do two things.

First, it would force states to honor all out-of-state carry permits, just like driver's licenses. Gun owners would still be required to know the self-defense laws in states they visit, but anti-gun states would not be allowed to block them from carrying all together.

Second, the bill would tear down more than a century of state-level anti-gun laws. More than a quarter of all Americans live in states that refuse to even issue carry permits to their own residents. The CCRA would allow these law-abiding Americans to seek a non-resident carry permit from states like Florida or Utah and use that permit to carry nationwide... including in their home state!

The 14th Amendment promises that states will not be allowed to abridge the freedoms and liberties of the American people. Section 5 of the 14th Amendment gives Congress the power to right these wrongs.

Whenever there is a mass shooting, there is a rush to target law-abiding Americans and scale back their rights. But this bill would do the opposite. It would empower good men and women to defend themselves and their communities.

For far too long, you have allowed these radical state legislatures to violate Americans' self-defense rights. But you have a chance, right now, to fix this.
