The more the American people learn about the Left's gun control proposals, the less they actually support them.

Support for gun control is now plummeting. That is because for all of the talk about these gun control bills being "common sense" and "reasonable," they are nothing but thinly veiled attempts to chip away at our right to keep and bear arms.

But even as the public sours on the proposed gun bans, many of your colleagues still want to "do something" on gun control. They are trying to find a bill that will show they are "doing something" without turning gun owners against them.

Listen very carefully: that is not possible.

Take the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019, as an example. This is one of the bills that Democrats are demanding the GOP to pass. They are calling it a "common sense" fix to the background check system. But in reality, it would give the government the power to block millions of law abiding Americans from buying guns.

When the background check system was created in 1994, the GOP and Dems reached a compromise. The government would only have 72 hours to process a background check. If a law abiding citizen goes to buy a gun and the FBI can't get its act together and process the background check within 3 calendar days, then the buyer can take the gun home anyway.

Without this provision in the law, there is nothing stopping the Federal government from blocking gun purchases by simply refusing to conduct the background check. We would not have a background check system today had it not been for this compromise. But today's Democrats don't call it a compromise anymore. Instead, they have branded it as a loophole.

The Enhanced Background Checks Act would abolish the 72-hour rule and stretch it out to 10 business days. If gun purchasers want to appeal a rejection, then the government would have another 10 business days to process the appeal. A background check form is only valid for one month. If the gun purchase hasn't been completed in a month, then the buyer has to start over from the beginning.

Giving the government the power to take 20-21 business days to process a background check is a horrible idea. It would give the FBI the power to simply run out the clock on gun purchases without even needing to give a yes or no answer.

This isn't a compromise. This is a concerted effort to turn the right to keep and bear arms into a privilege that can be revoked at any time.

You CANNOT allow this bill to pass. I am demanding that you honor your oath to defend the 2nd Amendment. You must kill the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019 and any other gun control bill that threatens the right of the people to keep and bear arms!

If you can't or won't do that, then you will be replaced with someone who actually respects the rights of the people... That is a promise!
