A 69-year-old Pennsylvania man was just arrested for illegally carrying a handgun into the State of New Jersey. Even though he was allowed to carry the gun in Pennsylvania, he now faces 28 years in prison because New Jersey doesn't honor his right to bear arms...

This is disgusting. But do you know what is even more disgusting? You could have prevented this.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act has been collecting dust for more than two and a half years. Neither Republicans, nor Democrats, want to touch it.

The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would simply force states to treat out-of-state carry permits the way they treat out-of-state drivers licenses. People would still be expected to know the laws where they travel, but states would have to honor their licenses.

This is common sense. The Supreme Court has already ruled that the right to bear arms means that Americans have a right to carry firearms. And yet, it is currently impossible for any civilian to carry in all fifty states. California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island all refuse to honor any out-of-state carry permits. They believe that the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply inside of their borders.

These states are violating the people's rights. Under the 14th Amendment, you have the obligation to right this wrong, and the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would do just that!

But it would actually go further than this. More than a quarter of all Americans also live in states that refuse to issue carry permits to their own residents. Even if someone passes a test and a background check, these states refuse to issue the permits. The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act would allow law-abiding people in these anti-gun states to get non-resident permits from Utah or Florida and then use those permits to carry nationwide... even in their home state.

You have a chance right now to tear down more than a century of unconstitutional state-level anti-carry laws. I am demanding that you pass this common sense bill.

Congress is debating a number of gun control proposals right now. I am demanding that you attach the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act to this package and push it through. For once, you need to honor your oath and protect the right to carry.
