Your colleagues believed that they have reached common ground on a new gun confiscation bill. Instead of passing a massive gun ban, the GOP is offering Democrats a Federal Red Flag passage.

There are a number of ways that the government can revoke someone's Constitutional rights, But they all require prosecutors to actually prove that a gun owner did something wrong. They require prosecutors to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that a defendant broke the law. Until then, all Americans are presumed innocent.

But Red Flag laws flip that premise upside down. Prosecutors would be allowed to obtain confiscation orders without even needing to charge the gun owner with a crime. Then, instead of the burden falling on prosecutors to prove guilt, it is up to the gun owner to convince a judge that they deserve their guns back. If the judge disagrees, then the confiscation order can be extended up to a year. Again, all without the gun owner even being charged with a crime.

This bill literally gives the government the power to disarm innocent Americans.
