Since before the founding of this country, Americans have been building their own firearms for personal use. Today, any law-abiding citizen who is legally allowed to own a gun is also allowed to build their own firearm, as long as the gun itself is legal and they do not intend to sell it for profit.

This is an essential part of the right to keep and bear arms protected by the 2nd Amendment. As long as Americans can build their own firearms, complete civilian disarmament will always be impossible.

In November, a 16-year-old student brought a handgun to his Santa Clarita school and shot five of his classmates, killing two of them. Many of your colleagues tried to use this tragedy to further their anti-gun agenda.

Now, police have announced that the teenager used a homemade firearm to carry out his attack. He bought parts online and manufactured his own handgun. He was so intent on killing people, that he broke dozens of gun laws and built his own illegal handgun.

Democrats are now demanding that you pass their radical gun control bills to stop anyone from building a firearm for personal use.

H.R. 1266 would redefine gun parts as firearms, forcing Americans to seek government permission anytime they want to buy parts for a gun. It would change the Federal definition of a firearm to include ""any combination of parts designed or intended for use in converting any device into a firearm and from which a firearm may be readily assembled." Since the average firearm receiver has over 20 different parts, Americans would have to jump through hoops just to even repair a firearm...

H.R. 3265 would then make it a Federal crime to possess or share blueprints or instructions on how to build a firearm. Not only is this a gross affront to the Second Amendment, but it is also a clear violation of the First. If politicians feel they need to stop Americans from learning how to build firearms, then that knowledge is likely more important than ever before...

This is all about control. If Americans cannot legally build firearms, then they would have to purchase their guns through dealers. We already know that their ultimate goal is to create a database of all firearm transfers to eventually be used for disarmament. With homemade guns banned, they would be one step closer to making that a reality.

You MUST kill both of these bills, as well as any other legislation designed to chip away at the Second Amendment.
