You and your colleagues swore an oath to defend the Constitution, including the individual rights that make up the Bill of Rights.

With State of Emergency declarations around the country, many of those rights are now being violated in the name of public safety. For example, the 1st Amendment protects the right to peaceably assemble in public. That right has now been revoked in many cities and states to prevent the spread of the virus.

But local and state governments are not stopping there. They are also launching a full assault on the 2nd Amendment as well.

The FBI announced this week that they will likely not be able to process firearm purchase background checks. That means that the 72-hour failsafe within the 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act goes into effect. If the Federal government cannot process background checks within 72 hours, then purchasers are allowed to take their firearms home anyway.

Many of your colleagues demonized this provision and called it the Charleston Loophole, but this crisis proves just why it so important.

The problem is that localities are now declaring gun stores to be "non-essential" businesses and forcing them to close. So Americans who purchased firearms this week, and have been patiently waiting for the 72-hour clock to expire, are at risk of not being able to take their firearms home at all...

In San Jose, California, Mayor Sam Liccardo forced a local gun store to close, even while customers were lined up outside to purchase or pick up their firearms. But the Mayor admitted this had nothing to do with fighting the virus.

"We are having panic buying right now for food," Liccardo explained. "The one thing we cannot have is panic buying of guns."

There is no other way to explain it. This is a clear and unapologetic violation of the 2nd Amendment. Americans are having their rights trampled on right now.

The courts that would overrule these unconstitutional orders are now closed themselves. No Federal judges are going to intervene to put a stop to this.

Only you can stop this. Only you can put a stop to this lawlessness and flagrant abuse.

But you need to take action right now before this spirals any more out of control. The decisions you make right now will determine whether millions of Americans are able to defend themselves during this crisis.
