President Trump issued a warning to mayors and governors yesterday: if they refused to mobilize police officers and the national guard to protect their citizens, then the President would have no choice but to mobilize the military to do their job for them.

The President of the United States has the power to mobilize the Armed Forces during times of insurrection. The Insurrection Act of 1807 authorizes this.

In 1992, George H.W. Bush invoked the Insurrection Act in response to the LA riots. It was used a couple years earlier to respond to looting after a Hurricane. The Insurrection Act is vital to our national security and the maintenance of the rule of law.

While some cities and states heeded the President's warning, many did not. Downtown Manhattan was looted. A police officer in Las Vegas was shot in the head by protesters. Reports are still coming in, but we have seen dozens of reports just from the past 48 hours of business owners and homeowners being forced to use deadly force to defend themselves from angry mobs trying to kill them.

I am appalled by what happened to George Floyd. But these rioters and looters are not protesters. They are anarchists trying to tear our society apart.

And yet, instead of supporting the President, many of your colleagues are rushing to come to the defense of these rioters. Since it is an act of Congress that gives the President the power to intervene, they posit that an act of Congress can stop him. They are so consumed by anti-Trump hatred that they would rather American cities continue to burn.

If you dare join them, you are finished.

You should be working with the President to restore law and order, not scheming to protect the rioters and looters who are tearing this country apart.

Any Congressman or Senator who takes the side of rioters or looters will be removed from office.
