For years, Americans have been told that there is no need for them to own a gun or be allowed to carry in public because it is law enforcement's job to protect society.

That has always been a lie. When seconds count, the police are minutes away.

But over the last month, we have seen the narrative shift. Now, police officers are being branded as the enemy as well. Many of your colleagues openly advocate "defunding the police" and in cities like Minneapolis, Los Angeles, and New York, local politicians are doing just that.

They claim that civilians should not own guns and should instead rely on police to protect them, but in the very next breath advocate shutting down police departments...

It is not a coincidence that after New York City announced it was defunding the police and shutting down its plain clothes anti-crime unit, murders and shootings in the city skyrocketed. Amazingly, the very politicians who are voting to defund the police are also voting to renew their private security details. These radical politicians do not want to deal with the consequences of their own actions.

The average American cannot afford to hire private security or live in a gated community. For them, the only means to defend themselves and their families is their God-given right to keep and bear arms.

But right now, 25% of Americans live in states that refuse to honor their right to bear arms. These states say that they allow concealed carry, but it is next to impossible for any civilian to get a permit. Even if they pass all the tests and meet all the requirements, these "may-issue" states are allowed to simply refuse them their permits.

It gets worse for out-of-state visitors. States like New York, New Jersey, Illinois, California, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Hawaii refuse to honor any out-of-state concealed carry permits. So not only do they refuse to issue their own permits, but they refuse to honor other states' permits as well.

1 in 4 Americans are currently being blocked from exercising their right to bear arms. Not surprisingly, these are the same states now talking about defunding the police...

It is time for Congress to intervene. I am demanding that you pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act into law before it is too late.

The bill is simple. For one, it would grant nationwide reciprocity to any lawful concealed carry permit. If someone is licensed or permitted to carry a concealed weapon in one state, then this bill would make it legal for them to carry in all 50 states. They would still need to follow and obey state and local self-defense laws, but liberal jurisdictions would no longer be allowed to simply refuse them their right to carry.

But perhaps more importantly, the bill would also extend nationwide carry rights for non-resident permits. If a law-abiding New Yorker has their carry permit rejected, they would be able to apply for a non-resident permit from Utah or Florida and use that permit to carry nationwide... including in their home state. This legislation would literally restore the right to carry to 1 in 4 Americans.

The time has come for you to pass this bill. With police officers being defunded and ordered to stand down around the country, you must ensure that law-abiding Americans are allowed to protect themselves. This has become a life or death issue.
