Congress faces a deadling to pass a Pentagon spending bill by the end of the month, otherwise the Department of Defense will shut down and military families won't get their paychecks.

Democrats have added an amendment to the House version that would defund American police departments by cutting off their access to free military surplus equipment. The Senate GOP responded by offering the meet the Defund the Police movement halfway and voted to cut off police departments' access to certain military vehicles.

The Left can smell the GOP's cowardice. They are now demanding a full end to the Pentagon's 1033 program, otherwise they will shut the Pentagon down. And four Republicans -- Paul (KY), Murkowski (AK), Daines (MT), and Gardner (CO) have already flipped and joined the 'Defund the Police' Democrats.

There was a riot in Lancaster, Pennsylvania last night.

A police officer was forced to shoot an assailant who was running after him with a knife. Lies spread on social media claiming that the officer shot an autistic child, and before you knew it, the city devolved into anarchist chaos and violence.

Lancaster is Amish country. It is the last place in America you would expect to see one of these violent riots. But yesterday's events prove that now town or city is truly safe from this madness.

That is why the Pentagon's 1033 program is so important. A week ago, you would never have believed that a Pennsylvania city in Amish country would need military surplus equipment to put down violent riots. But last night proved that the equipment they received under the 1033 program was absolutely vital to the restoration of law and order, and the protection of their community.

Since 1991, the 1033 program has gifted more than $7 billion in decommissioned military surplus equipment to state and local police departments. The program is a win-win. The DOD gets to avoid destroying practically new, but no longer needed military equipment and get to avoid having to pay to store and maintain the equipment in federal facilities. Local and state police forces get to avoid paying retail for much of their equipment, which in turn translates to a savings for local taxpayers as well.

Many smaller towns and cities only have a SWAT and riot equipment because of the 1033 Program. They never would be able to afford an armored vehicle if they had to pay retail. Under the 1033 Program, they just have to pay the shipping costs. The vehicles themselves are free.
