In 2013, Barack Obama's ATF concluded that the SB-15 arm brace was legal to own and use. The device was invented by Alex Bosco as a way to help his disabled friend fire a heavy pistol one-handed. It works by allowing a gun owner to strap or rest their handgun against their arm to make it easier to control the gun's weight and recoil.

Today, more than 2 million Americans own these devices. Each one sold ships with a copy of the ATF letter explaining that it is legal to own and use.

Over the past 7 years, however, the ATF has tried to roll back this finding. They have tried to take the 2+ million Americans who purchased these devices legally (and with the ATF's blessing) and turn them into felons. They have attempted to change the regulation multiple times, but the fight came to a head when an Ohio man was prosecuted for owning and using one of the devices in 2018. The US Attorney actually tried to block the ATF approval letter from being entered into evidence. Luckily, that defendant was found not guilty. Who would have thought that it isn't a crime to use a legal device...

Joe Biden spent the past year promising to go after these 2 million gun owners if he was elected. On November 10, members of the Biden transition team met with ATF officials to go over ways to reverse the previous regulations and turn millions of gun owners into felons.

Now, a month later, we are getting a look at what this new regulation will look like and it is terrifying. Leaked documents now show that instead of redefining these arm braces, their agents will use a "totality of the circumstances" approach to "prove" that gun owners are using them illegally.

If a gun is too heavy, fired too-large of a cartridge, or was too long, in an ATF agent's opinion, for a gun owner to be able to accurately fire, that subjective determination would be used to prove an arm brace was being used illegally.

If an ATF agent believes that it would be too difficult to fire a braced handgun accurately one-handed, that could also be used as a justification to charge a law-abiding gun owner with a crime.

There is nothing illegal about owning a heavy or powerful handgun, nor is it illegal to be a bad marksman. The new ATF guidance, however, would allow agents and prosecutors to criminalize legal behavior.

This is all designed to scare gun owners into submission. We know that because the leaked document concludes by offering the 2+ million affected Americans with a chance to register their guns with the Federal government... for free. Yes, that is their offer to gun owners: go to prison or agree to be added to a registry of gun owners (to be used in future confiscation efforts).

Gun owners are some of the most law-abiding people in our society. They have to know the laws because even one small slip-up can result in serious prison time. This new ATF regulation, however, is designed to be deliberately vague. Instead of telling gun owners what is or is not legal, it would allow agents to arrest gun owners based on a belief that their gun is too heavy or too difficult to fire accurately...

The American people deserve better than this. Law abiding gun owners deserve better than this.

And the attempt to scare gun owners into registering their guns with the federal government is a shameful attempt to build a federal gun owner registry (which is against the law) in order to aid future confiscation efforts.

You must put a stop to this right now! I don't care what it takes, you CANNOT allow this new ATF regulation to go into effect and turn 2+ million law-abiding Americans into criminals!
