[Sen./Rep.] [FIRST NAME] [LAST NAME]
Washington, DC
Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:
On May 9, 2025, Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) crossed a dangerous line at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility in Newark, New Jersey. Far from a lawful "protest" or oversight visit, McIver's actions spiraled into violence. As Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested for trespassing, McIver didn't just observe—she attacked. ICE bodycam footage captures her shoving and elbowing a Department of Homeland Security agent and an ICE officer, recklessly endangering law enforcement doing their duty. This wasn't oversight; it was a violent outburst that could've seriously injured officers. Interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, a fearless prosecutor and Trump appointee, rightfully filed federal felony charges against McIver on May 19, 2025. The charges—two counts of assaulting, resisting, and impeding federal officers under Title 18, U.S. Code, Section 111(a)(1)—carry up to a year in prison. Habba's decision is a masterstroke of justice, sending a clear message: no one, not even a congresswoman, is above the law. Her office dismissed Baraka's minor trespassing charge but held McIver accountable for her egregious actions, showing impartiality and focus on the real crime. McIver's violence demands jail time. Her claim of "political persecution" is a weak dodge—bodycam evidence doesn't lie. Congressmembers aren't immune to consequences; they must model integrity, not chaos. Habba's unwavering stance protects law enforcement and upholds order. McIver's reckless assault risked lives and eroded public trust. A prison sentence is critical to deter others and prove that no title shields you from justice. Habba's bold move ensures accountability prevails.
Sincerely,
